Amethyst: February birthstone
February has amethyst as its birthstone, a gem that is characterized by its purple color that accompanies love in this month, and it is no coincidence that in the European Renaissance it was believed that amethyst calmed the passion between lovers.
To celebrate this month, we have three customizable 14-carat gold rings with cabochon-cut amethysts to give or give yourself.
If your birthday is in February, wearing an amethyst can also be a symbol of personal empowerment and inner strength, since amethyst in jewelry, since Egyptian times, was considered a symbol of power.

Amethyst belongs to the family of macrocrystalline quartz (formed by large crystals), along with citrine and rose quartz. Its color ranges from pastel pink to deep purple. The element that gives amethyst its color is iron, so the color can be more or less intense, depending on the amount of iron it has. In addition, the factor that gives an amethyst more value is its color: the more intense, the more expensive the gem.
This gemstone has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, which means it can be used in rings and other everyday jewelry, but over time it can wear down and require re-polishing. Although this birthstone has a high hardness, it runs the risk of scratching if it is placed next to a much harder stone such as ruby, sapphire or diamond.

There are amethyst deposits in Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, Kenya and Zambia, and each region is characterized by mining amethysts with characteristics that make them unique from each other.
- The Brazilian amethyst, from the Brejinho mine, is particularly appreciated for its purple reflections that appear on the surface of the gem and are of an intense violet color.
- The Zambian amethyst, on the other hand, has a light purple with wonderful shades of blue and pink that illuminate the body of the gem when it is moved.
- The amethyst from Uruguay has the deepest and most perfect violet/purple color, it is considered one of the best in the world.
