How to Keep Your Jewelry Safe During the Summer: Five Essential Tips
Summer brings sunny days and outdoor activities, but it can also pose a challenge for taking care of your jewelry. With these five tips, you can keep your pieces in good condition throughout the season.
1. Avoid Contact with Personal Care Products
Remove your jewelry when washing your face, using skincare products, applying sunscreen, lotion, or perfume. The chemicals and oils in these products can damage the metal and dull your pieces.
2. Protect Your Rings During Exercise
When working out, especially when lifting weights, make sure to remove your rings. The strain and contact with equipment can damage or deform them.
3. Don’t Swim with Your Jewelry
The chlorine used in pools can damage the structure of metals like gold and silver.
4. Keep Away from Sand and Saltwater
Saltwater and sand can scratch or harm your jewelry. It’s better to store them in a safe place before going to the beach. They can also fall off and get lost while swimming in the ocean.
5. Choose the Right Jewelry for Each Activity
Gold is more resistant than silver, and it’s better to avoid plated pieces as sweat can affect them. If you decide to wear jewelry with gems, choose the hardest and most resistant ones, such as ruby (the birthstone of the month), sapphire, or diamond.
Travel Jewelry Recommendations from PAAR
Packing for a summer trip? The key to traveling light is to pack versatile clothing and accessories that can work for both day and night, and that don’t take up much space in your suitcase.
Here are some of our recommendations:
- Medium Hoops in Silver
- Pearl Hoops in 14k Gold
- Sankuru Bracelet in Silver
- Caia Ring in Silver
- Mini Necklaces in Silver
- Hematite Necklace in Silver
- WILD Turtle Necklace in Silver

Although it's generally not recommended to swim or expose your jewelry to chemicals like chlorine, perfume, or sunscreen, sometimes we forget to take them off. For summer, the ideal pieces are those made from 14k gold or 925 silver, as they are less likely to tarnish or fade. If you want to add a bit of sparkle and color to your jewelry, we recommend using pieces with harder gems like diamonds, rubies, or sapphires.
Here are some more recommendations:
- 14k Yellow Gold Heart Necklace
- Birthstone Necklaces
- Empowerment Necklace, Empowerment Bracelet, or Empowerment Ring
- Hoxton Earrings in Silver
- White Gold Thin Round Ring
- Twisted Ring
